Your Performance Weekend

Date: 2nd & 3rd of August 2025

Location: Loughborough University

Overview: A weekend designed for runners of all abilities to improve their running performance. Our performance weekend is led by the expert coaching team at New Levels Coaching who carefully plan an action packed weekend, for runners of all abilities to enjoy.

Day 1 – The first day is all about running technique and how to apply this to running. We look at running form, running drills, posture and how to improve biomechanically, which can all contribute to imrpoved performance.

Day 2 – The Sunday will be focussed on endurance physiology and the science behind the sport of running. This will look at things such as, training zones, training intensities, lactate thresholds and much more. You will take part in a physiological test on the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Track and our team will analyse your testing data and provide a full physiological report, which will help you to understand how to train smarter and race faster.

Ability Grading: All Abilities (Level 1)

Our Performance Running Camp is designed for runners of all abilities looking to refine their technique, enhance efficiency, and gain a deeper understanding of the physiology behind running. Whether you’re aiming to improve your form, build endurance, or boost speed, this camp offers expert coaching and tailored sessions to help you reach your goals.

Your training will vary depending on the day and includes a combination of track work, technical drills, run testing, and low-level plyometrics. Our expert coaching team will be there to support and challenge runners of all abilities in a safe and engaging environment.

The Weekend Schedule

Day 1 - Running Technique

  • Arrivals, welcome and introduction to your coaching team
  • Running technique and drills session looking at posture, ground contact and plyometrics
  • Nutrtious lunch at the Elite Athlete Hotel
  • Technical running session and learning how to improve your running form
  • Coaches Q&A to finish your day

Day 2 - Endurance Physiology

  • Arrivals, welcome and an introdcution to your coaching team
  • Understanding physiology seminar and session introduction
  • Physiological testing performed on the Paula Radcliffe Athletics Track including lactate sampling
  • Nutritios lunch at the Elite Athlete Centre
  • Learning the science behind the sport with our endurance physiology workshop
  • Coaches and physiologists Q&A to finish your day

Lewis Moses

Lewis Moses is a former international athlete and the founder of New Levels Coaching. In 2012, he won the British Indoor 1500m title and represented Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, Turkey. He holds personal bests of 3:41 for 1500m, 7:55 for 3000m, and 13:47 for 5000m.

After graduating from Loughborough University with a BSc in Applied Sport Science, Lewis became a qualified UK Athletics coach. He founded New Levels Coaching to inspire runners of all abilities to reach their potential.

In addition to his coaching endeavors, Lewis co-founded Runner Retreats, offering running experiences in inspirational locations around the UK & Europe.

Through his work, Lewis continues to contribute significantly to the running community, helping athletes enhance their performance and well-being, as well as working with elite athletes at the highest end of the sport.

Gemma Hillier-Moses

Gemma Hillier-Moses is an England international athlete and co-founder of New Levels Coaching and Runner Retreats. She holds a BSc in Sports and Exercise Science from Loughborough University and has over a decade of experience coaching athletes of all abilities. Her qualifications include UK Athletics coaching certification, Level 3 Personal Trainer, Level 4 Cancer Rehabilitation Specialist, exercise referral specialist, and clinical Pilates instructor.

In recent years, Gemma has shifted her focus towards trail and ultra running. Notably, she secured first place female in the Ladybower Reservoir 50K Ultra 2024, finishing second overall.

Additionally, in January 2025, she achieved a second-place finish in the ARC 25 race, part of the Arc of Attrition by UTMB series. These accomplishments highlight her successful transition into trail running and her continued excellence in the sport.

Jethro McGraw

Jethro McGraw is the Head of Coaching at New Levels Coaching, where he specialises in endurance training. He has successfully coached athletes to significant achievements, including sub-4-minute miles, master’s records, and marathon times ranging from sub-2:30 to sub-4:30. Jethro is also an active endurance athlete, participating in events across various terrains.

In addition to his role at New Levels Coaching, Jethro serves as an Endurance Coach for the University of Birmingham Athletics Club. He has been involved in organising and leading event-specific workshops, sessions, and training camps both domestically and internationally.

Jethro’s dedication to coaching was recognised when he received the Volunteer of the Year award at the University of Birmingham’s Sports Awards in 2024. He was honored for his voluntary coaching efforts, which led to two athletes making their Great Britain debuts and securing individual medals at the BUCS indoor athletics championships

Kirsty Hillier

Kirsty Hillier is a qualified Athletics Coach and Level 3 Triathlon Coach with a background in triathlon and endurance running. She has been coaching since 2003, developing her skills through various avenues, including club coaching, age group coaching, and her role with the British Triathlon’s Paratriathlon Performance squad.

In addition to her coaching roles, Kirsty is an accomplished athlete, having completed numerous endurance events worldwide. Her achievements include the London Marathon, the Outlaw Long Distance Triathlon, and qualifying for multiple Age Group Triathlon World Championships.

Kirsty also serves as the Operations Manager for Runner Retreats, overseeing operations, logistics, and ensuring the seamless execution of all events.

Dave Sheldon

Dave is an exercise physiologist and coach affiliated with New Levels Coaching, Runner Retreats and the University of Birmingham. He earned a first-class honors degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University, followed by an MSc in Exercise Physiology. Currently, he is pursuing a Professional Doctorate focusing on the use of altitude training to enhance endurance performance.

At the University of Birmingham, Dave serves as a Sport Science Officer. In this role, he provides physiological support to elite student-athletes across various sports, including triathlon and athletics.

Dave is also an active contributor to academic research. He has co-authored studies examining topics such as carbohydrate intake patterns during prolonged running and the effects of environmental conditions on athletic performance.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Dave is a keen runner and cyclist, having previously competed at a high level in the 1500m event. This personal experience as an athlete enhances his understanding of the practical applications of exercise physiology and informs his coaching philosophy

Matt Long

Dr. Matt Long is a distinguished athletics coach and educator with extensive experience across multiple organisations, including New Levels Coaching, England Athletics, and Loughborough University.

At New Levels Coaching, Matt leads group sessions at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium in Loughborough. He has represented England as a team manager and coach on 17 occasions, notably serving as an England Team Coach during the Commonwealth Games Marathon Training Camp and the Commonwealth Games Development Camp leading up to Birmingham 2022.

Since 2010, Matt has been a Coach Education Tutor for England Athletics and was appointed Lead Tutor in 2017. He also serves as a Safeguarding Tutor for British Athletics. In 2022, he edited the England Athletics Youth Endurance Resource, contributing significantly to the development of young endurance athletes.
